When I say video games, what is the first thing that strikes your mind? Most probably it would either be Mario or Contra or Adventure Island or any similar wonderful Nintendo games from the past. Those were the budding days of gaming industry. It was then and it is now. The games have travelled a long distance in past two to three decades.

Those age old eight bit games including 1 or 2 player racing games, arcade games and adventure games were just the beginning of a superb era for gaming industry. Then the first stage of evolution occurred and eight bit gaming consoles where replaced by sixteen bit games. They were faster, more responsive and had better graphics, when compared to their predecessors. The 1 and 2 player racing games improved. The arcade games felt much more real. Sound quality also improved. It was better no doubt about it, but not the best in any ways. Further improvements were on the verge of stepping in. With PC's and consoles improving with each day, the games had ample chance of improving further.

It was during this phase when Sony and Nintendo jumped into the higher end gaming scenario. It was the advent of CD gaming. The games improved further. The gaming world moved from 2D to 3D gaming. The games were more close to real world. The 1 or 2 player racing games now included car models which resembled the real models. The arcades were now fought in much more realistic arenas. And this development was not merely limited to console gaming. PC gaming was also progressing at the same rate. This close resemblance to real world increased the fan base of gaming to a large population. The overall gaming experience was to an all time high.

The gaming industry by now had gained a big stature. No longer was it considered a second grade job. Tremendous amount of research and development was now very common to further improve the gaming experience to the next level. Now it is the age of high definition and DVDs and games are still progressing. Since those old infant days to today's high end games, the gaming industry has progressed by leaps and bounds. In fact now it is going at a more rapid pace. I am sure that some day in the future we are going to play games in virtual reality wherein we would ourselves be the character inside a virtual world.
